London Marathon: A Historic Event Uniting Runners and Landmarks

The 2026 TCS London Marathon will take place on Sunday, April 26, marking the 46th edition of this world-renowned event. Runners will follow the traditional 26.2-mile route starting in Blackheath and finishing on The Mall near Buckingham Palace, passing iconic landmarks like Tower Bridge, the London Eye, and Big Ben.

Entry into the marathon is available through a public ballot, which opens on April 28, 2025, and results are typically announced by mid-summer. Charity entries are also widely available, with many UK-based charities offering guaranteed places in return for fundraising commitments. For example, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust requires a £100 registration fee and a £2,000 fundraising goal. Experienced runners can apply for Championship or Good For Age entries if they meet qualifying times during the eligibility window from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025.

On race day, the streets of London come alive with cheering spectators, live music, and thousands of participants, many in themed costumes. The marathon is known for its incredible atmosphere and strong sense of community, with a massive focus on charity and personal achievement. Runners collect their race packs at the marathon expo in the days leading up to the event, where they also connect with sponsors and fellow participants.
